Top Looks from the Met Gala 2018: Heavenly Bodies
On the first Monday in May every year, those interested in fashion, celebrity and art look to the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Costume Institute Gala better known as the Met Gala or Met Ball.
The Met Gala is the biggest fashion fundraising event of the year with the most famous people from the fashion, film, music and art industries in attendance to celebrate the opening of the Met’s Costume Institute’s latest exhibition opening and raise money.
Each year the Met Gala follows the theme of the exhibition the ball in celebrating with this year’s being ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. The celebrities in attendance are left to interpret the theme themselves and dress in accordance to the theme and show their outfits to the world on the fashion industry’s night of nights.
This year showed some interesting and glamorous outfits following the Heavenly Bodies theme. Scroll down for my favourites in no particular order from the evening.
Blake Lively always looks stunning and this was no exception; wearing a gown by Versace with a gorgeous red velvet skirt and train, split front with chiffon panels and intricately detailed bodice. This look is by far my favourite, I love the soft gold appliqués and embroidery and the billowing skirt, topped off with a lovely gold crown.
Gigi Hadid looks elegant and unique in her navy, gold and pastel Versace gown. The one shoulder look with a long sleeve was unique and I loved it. I thought her dress differed from most and stood out.
Hailey Baldwin was another elegantly dressed celebrity with a simple soft blue gown and high side/front split. I thought the gown was gorgeous and suited her well. I’m not too sure how ti fit in with the theme but it was still lovely. (Side not: Hailey Baldwin and Shawn Mendes made a cute couple at the event. Shawn Mendes wore Tommy Hilfiger)
Kim Kardashian West
This is by far my favourite look I’ve soon Kim Kardashian-West wear. She looked absolutely stunning, it was simply but put her mine, and I’m sure many other’s top dressed. She also wore Versace. Further, her makeup is definite goals.
Jennifer Lopez is another celebrity who can’t seem to go wrong with what she wears. Her gown was outstanding. I especially loved the sleeves, collar and cut out front. I also loved the gold detailing again black. She J-Lo wore Balmain.
Honestly, I thought Miley Cyrus looked so elegant in her black satin Stella McCartney dress. It was simple and I think that was statement enough against many daring outfits.
Amal Clooney also went with billowing skirts and a train. The pattern was lovely and reminded me of a traditional 19th century gown with the corset-like structured bodice but with a modern twist of pants under the open front train. Her dress was by Richard Quinn.
Ariana Grande wore Vera Wang. The shop and structure was what I love about this dress. It was also a more classic style gown though of course with modern details such as the uneven top layer showing off the layers of tulle. Ariana topped it off with a large bow that I just loved.
Kendall Jenner was also one of my favourites, dressed in an Off White jumpsuit. Under the off the shoulder detail you can see the corset detailed bodice with a curved waist. I thought the train on the legs of the pants was also unique. Definitely an outfit many are going to start following for events.
I thought Taylor Hill’s was a lovely gown and had a nice twist from a pope’s robe. The red detailing and was what really caught my eye and made me really like this one. Plus, I absolutely want her shoes! Her outfit was created by Diane von Furstenburg.
Hailee Steinfeld looked glamorous in her white Probal Gurung gown. I’m not a huge fan of the tinsel looking edging but I thought the rest was elegant and she looked stunning.
Gabrielle Union’s yellow Portal Gurung dress was lovely. The colour really suited her and I thought the dress was simply gorgeous.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked like an angel complete with a halo in her Ralph Lauren gown. The dress is stunning. I love the way it sits and that the shape is not over the top but makes a statement. The cape like feature really pulled the dress to the next level.
I loved the colours used in Donatella Versace’s dress. The simplicity the over skirt brings really draws the eye to the dress. And of course she matched her boots to the dress. I loved it.
Gold was a statement and go to for many celebrities at this year’s Met Gala, but Irina Shayk’s gold Versace dress stood out for me. I loved the silhouette of it and the feather like detailing along the skirt and train.
Ashley Graham also stunned in Probal Gurung. She definitely knows what suits her and dresses for it. I loved her dress and the shape of it. Everything about the dress suited her, the colour especially. It was such gorgeous dress and I especially liked how she didn't feel over do the accessories.
And of course, I feel like this wouldn't be about the fashion of the Met Gala 2018 without mentioning Katy Perry’s look. It wasn’t one of my favourites but it’s definitely one to remember and be shared. Those wings alone need to be mentioned, if you ever thought a simply pair of angel wings were fine when dressing as an angel you are dead wrong. Katy’s wings made that clear. I’m not entirely sure how she got in a car to get to the Gala or how she’s going to sit down but props to her for really taking the Heavenly Bodies theme seriously.
Overall, I loved many of the looks of this year's Met Gala, there were also a few that words can’t describe and I thought were weird but the elegance of many of the dresses was my favourite part. Let me know what you thought of these outfits or if you have any favourite looks from this year’s Met Gala let me know!
